The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, has pledged his support for the National Youth Authority’s (NYA) campaign to fight substance abuse among young people in the country.
The pledge was made during a courtesy call by the leadership of the NYA to the National Mosque to inform the Muslim community about activities lined up for the National Youth Month.
According to the Chief Imam, his office has over the years spoken strongly against the use of hard drugs among the youth, a situation he described as disturbing.
He commended the Authority for the initiative and assured that his office will lend its support to make the campaign against substance abuse impactful.
Chief Executive Officer of the NYA, Osman Ayariga, informed the Chief Imam about the Authority’s plans to curb substance abuse through its “Red Means Stop” campaign.
“As part of the National Youth Month, we asked the Chief Imam to advise the youth against substance abuse, against any form of abuse that will hinder the progress of this country and the progress of the youth, which he advised and prayed for them,” Mr. Ayariga said.
