MTN Ghana has announced plans to deploy 80 new network sites across the Northern, Savannah, Upper East and North East Regions to improve connectivity and service quality.

The new sites comprise 38 in the Northern Region, 17 in the Savannah Region, 14 in the Upper East Region and 11 in the North East Region.

According to MTN Ghana, the initiative forms part of its commitment to connecting people and enabling progress, with the company targeting a total of 500 new cell sites nationwide.

“A network that reaches communities without creating opportunities cannot achieve meaningful transformation. Digital inclusion is not simply about access to technology; it is about ensuring that people can use technology to improve their lives, livelihoods and futures,” the company said.

The company made the disclosure at this year’s media and stakeholder forum to commemorate its 30th anniversary in Ghana.

Addressing participants at the forum, Emmanuel Afutu of MTN Ghana said the company would invest US$1.1 billion over the next three years, including approximately US$380 million in 2026, to enhance network capacity, improve service quality and strengthen the resilience of its infrastructure to meet growing customer demand.

He disclosed that in the first half of 2026, the value of MoMo transactions grew by 44.4 percent year-on-year, reflecting the increasing adoption of digital financial services by Ghanaians for transactions, savings and business activities.

“Active MoMo users grew by 3.1 percent, transaction volumes increased by 23.3 per cent, and MoMo revenue rose by 23.3 percent year-on-year. For many, MoMo has become more than a payment platform. It is a gateway to economic participation,” he noted.

Mr. Afutu assured customers that MTN Ghana remained committed to strengthening its systems, improving its governance and ensuring that trust remained at the centre of its operations.

He said MTN Ghana delivered a strong performance in the first half of 2026, with service revenue growing by 32.3 per cent to GH¢15.0 billion, while EBITDA increased by 47.1 per cent to GH¢9.3 billion.

He added that EBITDA margins improved to 61.8 percent, while profit after tax rose by 46.8 percent to GH¢5.1 billion.

Mr. Afutu said the company’s financial performance was important because it enabled MTN Ghana to continue investing in its network, creating jobs and supporting communities across the country.

“Our performance and our purpose are two sides of the same coin,” he stressed.

He further indicated that through the MTN Ghana Foundation, the company had continued to invest in the future of Ghana’s young people and communities through sustainable interventions in education, health and economic empowerment.

He said the interventions had positively impacted thousands of lives across the country.
