Producer Inflation Rises To 4% In July

The Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Johnson Asiama, has announced that all 23 banks operating in Ghana have met their capital requirements, describing the development as a sign of growing strength and resilience in the banking sector.

He said the sector was in a stronger position, with banks maintaining healthy capital and liquidity levels while improvements in asset quality had helped reinforce their balance sheets.

Dr. Asiama made the disclosure at the 2026 CEOs Connect, organised by the Canada-Ghana Chamber of Commerce.

“The banking sector is also robust and resilient, with all banks now well capitalised. All 23 banks are now fully capitalised. Capital and liquidity positions remain sound, while the improvement in asset quality provides a stronger balance sheet,” he stressed.

The Governor linked the development to the nation’s broader efforts to restore macroeconomic stability over the past two years, saying the gains achieved should now translate into stronger economic activity.

He said the focus should shift towards increasing productive investment, expanding private-sector activity, boosting exports and creating more quality jobs.

Dr. Asiama also called for stronger participation by banks in the nation’s capital market to improve access to longer-term financing for businesses.

He explained that increased bank involvement in the capital market could widen access to long-term funds while promoting greater transparency and stronger corporate governance.

According to him, a deeper financial system would also provide businesses with a broader range of financing options suited to their different needs.

He therefore encouraged financial institutions and businesses to explore diverse sources of funding, including long-term debt and equity, trade finance, syndicated lending, private equity, leasing, export finance, development finance, and green and sustainability-linked financing.

The Governor said such instruments would be particularly important for businesses seeking to scale up operations, invest in expansion and compete in international markets.

He stressed that the availability of varied and affordable financing would be crucial to converting the nation’s macroeconomic gains into sustained private-sector growth and broader economic development.
