Paul Afoko
Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Awentami Afoko, is expected at the party’s headquarters in Accra on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, to submit his completed nomination forms for the National Chairmanship race.
The filing is a procedural step within the party’s extended nomination window and not his entry into the contest.
Mr. Afoko publicly declared his candidacy in July 2026 and picked up his nomination forms when collection opened on August 18.
Tuesday’s submission will be done ahead of the new deadline of August 29, after the NPP’s National Officers Elections Committee extended the filing period from the original August 27 date following a surge of interest from aspirants for various national positions.
Mr. Afoko is not running unopposed. His campaign is anchored on what he describes as the “3R Agenda” – Reunite, Rebuild and Recapture.
He argues that the party’s immediate priority must be to heal internal divisions and rebuild its structures as it prepares to recapture power in the 2028 general election, a message that carries personal resonance given his own history with the party.
Since declaring his bid, he has engaged delegates and grassroots supporters in several regions, pitching reconciliation and unity as critical to the NPP’s comeback bid after its defeat in the 2024 elections.
The filing on Tuesday formally places him on the party’s electoral calendar. Vetting of aspirants is scheduled for August 31 to September 3, with results expected on September 5.
Appeals will be heard from September 6 to 7, while the national delegates conference to elect new national officers is slated for October 3, 2026.
