Davies Narh Korboe
The President of the Federation of Associations of Ghanaian Exporters (FAGE), Davies Narh Korboe, has described Ghana as the world’s leading exporter of yam and called for increased investment in horticulture to unlock the sector’s full economic potential.
According to Mr. Korboe, the country has significant opportunities in the horticulture sector, particularly in the production, processing and export of yam and mangoes.
“Once we invest in horticulture, that would help a lot because, for instance, if you take yam, Ghana is the leading exporter of yam in the whole world, with Jamaica being the second,” he said in an interview on August 24, 2026.
He also highlighted the potential of the nation’s mango industry, noting Ghana’s ability to harvest mangoes in two seasons provides a major advantage that could be leveraged to generate substantial export revenue.
“We have over 200 hectares of mango in the country.
“We can get about US$4 billion annually from mangoes alone because Ghana is the only country that harvests mangoes in two seasons. So, if we are able to add value…” Mr Korboe said.
He was speaking ahead of the Ghana International Horticulture Expo 2026, scheduled for September 3–5, 2026, at the Palms Convention Centre, La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra.
The expo is being organised by FAGE in collaboration with the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) and Ghana EXIM Bank. President John Dramani Mahama is expected to attend as the Special Guest of Honour.
The event will bring together key stakeholders in Ghana’s horticulture and export sectors to explore opportunities for investment, value addition, market expansion and increased export earnings.
The focus on horticulture comes at a time when Ghana’s non-traditional export sector is recording significant growth.
Data from GEPA indicates that Ghana earned US$5.01 billion from non-traditional exports in 2025, representing a 30.7 percent increase year-on-year.
Agricultural non-traditional exports accounted for US$710.3 million, an increase of 37.8 percent compared with the previous year.
