Ghana Premier League coaches ahead of new season
The 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season is set to kick off with Ghanaian coaches dominating the technical benches across the country’s top-flight clubs.
Thirteen of the 18 Premier League sides have placed their teams under the leadership of local coaches, representing 72.2% of the league. Only five clubs, or 27.8%, will begin the campaign with foreign coaches.
Several experienced Ghanaian tacticians will be looking to make their mark this season. Ibrahim Tanko will lead Medeama SC, while Kobina Amissah takes charge of Swedru All Blacks.
Kwaku Danso will be at the helm of Berekum Chelsea, Samuel Boadu will guide Aduana FC, and Abdul-Karim Zito will oversee FC Ashantigold 04.
The other Ghanaian coaches include Abdulai Gazale at Basake Holy Stars, Christopher Annin at Port City, Nana Kwaku Agyemang at FC Samartex, Nurudeen Amadu at Karela United, Mohammed Bashar Ogba at Bechem United, Abdul Henan at Young Apostles, Isaac Nii Armah at Debibi United and Winfred Dormon at Dreams FC.
Meanwhile, five clubs have opted for foreign technical expertise.
Bibiani Gold Stars will be coached by Greek tactician Petros Koukouras, while South African Eric Tinkler takes charge of Asante Kotoko.
Hearts of Oak have appointed Bosnian coach Nebojša Kapor, Vision FC will be led by Montenegrin Predrag Jeredić, and Turkish coach Kasım Gökyıldız will oversee Heart of Lions.
The overwhelming presence of Ghanaian coaches represents a strong vote of confidence in local technical talent.
The new season will give the 13 Ghanaian coaches an opportunity to showcase their tactical knowledge, develop emerging players and prove that homegrown coaches can compete at the highest level of Ghanaian football.
For the five foreign coaches, the task will be equally demanding: to repay the trust placed in them by their respective clubs and use their international experience to make an impact on the Ghana Premier League.
