The police have arrested 15 suspects in separate intelligence-led operations across the country.
The suspects include five gun traders, with eight AK-47 rifles retrieved, five persons linked to a highway robbery on the Accra-Kumasi road, three suspects over robberies in Buipe, Tamale and Mion, and the death of the mastermind of the Buipe cattle market robbery and murder.
On the Buipe, Tamale, and Mion case, the Northern Regional Police Intelligence Directorate arrested three suspects in connection with a series of armed robberies involving a gang believed to operate with two AK-47 assault rifles and one pump-action gun along the Fumbisi-Yagaba road and sold stolen motorbikes to contacts in Tamale and Savelugu.
The suspects are Yacouba Oumar, Abdul Alhassan Kudus, and Abdul Rahman Haruna alias Saaga. They are responsible for the robbery and murder of a mobile money vendor at Fofulso, near Damongo Junction, earlier in 2026.
All three are in police custody assisting with investigations, while efforts are underway to arrest the remaining accomplices and retrieve the weapons.
In a separate operation, the Police Service has arrested a gang leader and four others in connection with the highway robbery on the Enyiresi-Sekyere stretch of the Accra-Kumasi highway on August 18, 2026, and recovered the pump-action gun used.
The suspects are Obotan, identified as the leader; his biological mother, who concealed the weapon in her house; Issaka Napson, identified as the weapons supplier; Issaka Majeed; and Majeed Huzeifa.
A 14-year-old juvenile who served as a lookout was also arrested. A search of their residences led to the recovery of one Adler pump-action gun (Serial No. 23GN-2302), one double-barrel gun, three single-barrel guns, two AA cartridges, one locally manufactured pistol, three cutlasses, two pairs of handcuffs, two jack knives, one canister of pepper spray, one pinch bar, one ammunition pouch, one tactical vest, and one unregistered Royal 125 motorbike.
All suspects are in custody assisting with investigations, while efforts continue to apprehend the remaining suspect, Tanko.
Meanwhile, the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector General of Police, between June and July 2026, following intelligence operations, arrested five suspects and retrieved eight AK-47 assault rifles, one SMG rifle, and two foreign pistols.
The suspects are Munkaila Yusif alias Karyima, 34; Abdulai Fatawu Boniface, 32; Abdallah Imrana Gomda, 43; Sualesu Sheriffa, 20; and Ibrahim Adams alias Ibru, 35. They have been remanded by the Accra Circuit Court. Other suspects on the run are being pursued.
The Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, addressing journalists at a press conference, said, “Let me once again make it clear to all criminals out there; the Ghana Police Service under my leadership will sustain these operations, and no matter where you run, no matter where you hide, we will come for you.”
He also commended all officers who took part in the operations and who continue to discharge their duties with dedication and professionalism in the protection of life and property.
“Your commitment remains central to the success of our operations, and as I continue to assure you, the Police Administration will continue to acknowledge and reward the hard work of all personnel across the country,” he added.
