Several of Ghana’s celebrated actors and other creatives have visited the family of veteran actress Grace Nortey to pay their respects and sympathise with them following her death.
The delegation included celebrated names such as Eunice Banini, Yvonne Nelson, Akrobeto, Vicky Zugah, Dinah Gbatey, Christiana Awuni, and Elaine Attoh, as well as production manager Haruna-Seidu-Soale Zoree, journalist, Francis Addo, and a host of others.
Led by Zoree and Dinah Gbatey, popularly known as Auntie Dinah, the group spent time with the bereaved family, signed the Book of Condolence and presented 21 packs of bottled water to the family.
The family has disclosed that the date for the burial has not yet been fixed. According to them, details of the funeral arrangements will be communicated to the creative community through Dinah Gbatey, who is serving as the liaison between the family and the creatives.

The visit came nearly a month after the death of Grace Nortey, one of Ghana’s pioneering actresses, who died on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) at the age of 89.
Born on February 1, 1937, Grace Nortey had a career spanning more than five decades and became one of the most recognisable faces in Ghanaian theatre, television and film.
Affectionately known as “Maame Gyata”, she was noted for her commanding roles and featured in popular productions including ‘Obra’, ‘Osofo Dadzie’, ‘Key Soap Concert Party’, ‘Cantata’, ‘Taxi Driver’ and ‘Thursday Theatre’. She also appeared in films such as ‘Sinking Sands’, ‘Ties That Bind’ and the internationally acclaimed ‘Beasts of No Nation’.
Her major screen debut came in the 1986 film ‘Juju’, and over the years she worked across theatre, television, radio and film. She also became an advocate for the welfare of veteran actors.
After spending some time with the family, the creatives took photographs, said their goodbyes and left, pledging to continue supporting and praying for the bereaved family.
Grace Nortey’s death marked the passing of a performer whose career connected generations of Ghanaian entertainment.
