Trader, 74, Remanded Over Cutlass Attack

A 74-year-old trader, Kofi Antwi Moosi, has been remanded into police custody for two weeks by the Nsuta Circuit Court in the Sekyere Central District of the Ashanti Region for allegedly causing harm to a 42-year-old driver.

The accused is alleged to have attacked the complainant, Addae Richard, with a cutlass at Dadease on September 29, 2026, leaving him with an injury to his right palm.

The court, presided over by His Lordship Simon Nketiah Gagah, issued the remand order on Thursday, October 1, 2026, after the prosecution requested more time to amend the facts of the case.

Chief Inspector C.K. Gyesi, who led the prosecution, told the court that the complainant, a native of Dadease, was walking along the town’s main street with some friends when they passed by the accused’s shop.

According to the prosecution, the complainant and his friends allegedly heard the accused making threatening remarks while wielding a sharp cutlass.

A few minutes later, the prosecution said, the accused allegedly rushed towards Richard and swung the cutlass at him several times before slashing him on his right palm.

The matter was subsequently reported to the Kumawu Police Station, leading to the arrest of the accused.

During police interrogation, the prosecution said Moosi admitted the offence in his caution statement and allegedly told investigators that he would have caused the complainant further harm if he had the opportunity.

The court was further informed that the complainant had been sent to hospital for medical attention.

In view of the circumstances and the need to amend the facts, the court did not take the plea of the accused but remanded him into police custody for two weeks.

The case has been adjourned to October 14, 2026, for the accused to plead to the charge.
