‘Ghana Is Ready For VFX, Animation Revolution, But Lacks Support’

The Chief Executive Officer of BrakoVerse Media, Kwame-Michael Brako, has called for deliberate investment in Visual Effects (VFX) and animation to push Ghana’s film industry to the next level.

In a statement on Instagram, Brako said Ghana has the potential to produce world-class stories, shows and movies if animation and VFX are given the needed attention.

“Imagine if Ghana pushed film to the next level with visual effects and animation. The next level of stories, shows and movies that could be made,” he stated.

According to him, the lack of support for animation and VFX is limiting the country’s possibilities and preventing it from becoming one of Africa’s top players in film effects.

He noted that discussions about Africa’s entertainment growth often centre on Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa, despite Ghana’s history of leading the continent in storytelling and film.

“We are often left out of the conversation when it comes to funding and grants. Infrastructure and training is a challenge of its own,” he said.

Brako added that while creatives are willing to lead, institutions and organisations are yet to fully embrace the opportunity to support talent.

He disclosed that his outfits, BrakoVerse Animation and BrakoVerse FilmFX, are working to bridge the gap.

“The moment the industry takes it serious, I feel that the country will advance its productions to the next level,” he noted.

He questioned whether Ghana is ready to embrace its animators and VFX artists, stressing that skills exist but financing and opportunities remain scarce.

“We have people with the skills but no financing or opportunities. Let’s make it work,” he added.
