Ghana’s national beach soccer team, the Black Sharks, have qualified for the 2026 CAF Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations in Senegal after defeating Nigeria 7-4 in the final round of qualifiers.

The emphatic victory secures Ghana’s return to the continental competition after missing out on the opportunity to feature among Africa’s best beach soccer nations.

The Black Sharks approached the decisive encounter determined to secure qualification against a Nigerian side known for its attacking strength and physical approach.

Ghana made an impressive start, playing with pace and confidence to put Nigeria under pressure. Their attacking efficiency proved decisive as they established an advantage and responded effectively whenever their opponents threatened to mount a comeback.

The 7-4 result highlighted Ghana’s attacking quality and improved defensive organisation, which had been key areas of focus during preparations for the qualifiers.

Qualification marks an important step forward for beach soccer in Ghana as the team seeks to re-establish itself on the continental stage.

Having last featured at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2024, the Black Sharks have been working towards a return through grassroots development, regional competitions and regular camping.

The victory over Nigeria represents a significant boost for the team as they prepare to face some of the continent’s strongest sides in Senegal.

At the 2026 tournament, Ghana will have the opportunity to test itself against established forces, including defending champions Senegal, as well as former champions Egypt and Morocco.

The competition will also offer the Black Sharks a chance to pursue qualification for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.
