Man Jailed 10 Years For Attacking MoMo Vendor

An unemployed man, who attacked a mobile money (MoMo) vendor with a machete in an attempt to rob him of GH¢40,000, has been sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment.

Kwame Agyapong, alias Michael Osei, was sentenced by the Adenta Circuit Court after being found guilty of attempted robbery and causing harm.
The court, presided over by Mrs. Angela Attachie, sentenced him to 10 years for attempted robbery and two years for causing harm. The sentences are to run concurrently.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Eric Abban said the complainant, Christian Owusu, is a mobile money vendor residing at Adenta Accountancy, while Agyapong lives at Ashaley Botwe Highways.

On June 5, 2025, at about 8:30 p.m., Owusu was returning home from work when Agyapong attacked him from behind with a machete near Adenta Accountancy and demanded the money he was carrying.

This led to a struggle during which Agyapong inflicted machete wounds on Owusu’s legs, head, hand and face.

The court heard that Owusu managed to wrest the machete from Agyapong, who abandoned his bicycle and fled. The incident was reported to the police.
Investigations revealed that Agyapong had visited a bicycle repair shop and a barbering shop on the day of the incident, leaving the bicycle and machete at the premises.
On June 26, 2025, he was spotted at a barbering shop and fled upon seeing Owusu. He was later spotted at Madina, arrested and handed over to the police.
