The suspects
The Dambai Circuit Court has remanded four persons into police custody in connection with disturbances that occurred at Dwabrem, WoraWora, on October 24, 2026.
The accused persons are Kwame Aboagye Ahenkroa, 55; Prince Asante, 27; Daniel Wiafe, 20; and Kwabena Nsimbo, 22.
The incident involved the burning of vehicle tyres and other acts of violence amid tensions surrounding the commencement of rites for the Akwantutenten Festival, reportedly over claims that a High Court injunction had been obtained to restrain the celebration.
Police personnel deployed to the scene extinguished the fire and restored order.
In a statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police John Nchor, Public Affairs Officer for the Oti Region, the police said on October 26, 2026, the Oti Regional Security Council (REGSEC), at a meeting with representatives of the disputing families, directed all parties to seek redress through the appropriate courts and Houses of Chiefs.
“The Council emphasised that the chieftaincy dispute must be resolved through lawful means and directed that all persons arrested in connection with the disturbances be dealt with in accordance with the law,” the statement said.
The Oti Regional Police Command has urged all parties to remain calm, exercise restraint and respect lawful processes to preserve peace and security in WoraWora. The accused persons are to reappear before the court on November 17, 2026.
