Ewura Adams Karim has declared his intention to contest for the position of Deputy National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), pledging to strengthen the party’s communication strategy.
Speaking at the official declaration and campaign launch in Accra on Wednesday, he said he would prioritise a rapid-response communication system to address misinformation, and effectively communicate the government’s achievements as part of efforts to attract non-members of the party.
He said the party needed communicators who could inspire grassroots supporters, explain government policies and achievements to the public, and respond swiftly to opposition claims with facts and evidence.
“The NDC needs three kinds of communicators: the party must be able to sustain the hopes of its supporters, win the confidence of undecided voters, and counter misinformation and disinformation,” he said.
He also announced plans to advocate for a digital media desk to strengthen the NDC’s presence on social media and equip young people with the skills to communicate the party’s messages across digital platforms.
According to him, political communication could no longer depend solely on radio and television discussions, as social media had become an important channel for reaching voters, particularly the youth.
He said party communicators should be equipped to document government projects through photographs and videos and share them online to provide the public with information on ongoing developments.
Karim Adams further pledged to train communicators across the party’s branches, constituencies and regions, with particular attention to women, persons with disabilities and people who do not speak English language.
He also promised to make grassroots members key members of the party’s communication strategy, stating that their contributions were essential to the NDC’s electoral success.
“I will be a Deputy National Communication Officer who will have foot soldiers at heart because I am one of you. I have been with you in the trenches, and I will continue to be with you in the trenches,” he added.
Mr. Karim, who described himself as a product of an NDC family, said his experience in broadcasting, public speaking, community organising and party communication had prepared him for the position.
