Abandoned Newborn Found At Dechemso

The place where the baby was found

An unidentified baby has been found abandoned in a bush at Dechemso-Hafia in the Manhyia South Constituency of the Ashanti Region.

Residents discovered the baby in the morning of Sunday, April 26, and quickly alerted the authorities. The infant was rescued and rushed to the Manhyia Government Hospital for urgent medical attention.

Eyewitnesses say the child was found with several mosquito bites, raising concerns about the circumstances under which the baby was abandoned.

Police in the area have since launched investigations to identify and apprehend the person responsible for abandoning the baby.
They are appealing to the public, particularly residents of Dechemso-Hafia and surrounding communities, to volunteer any information that could assist in the ongoing investigation.

The condition of the baby is yet to be confirmed by health officials at the facility.

The incident adds to growing concerns over the increasing cases of newborn babies being abandoned in unsafe places such as bushes, refuse dumps, and public toilets in parts of the country. Many residents have expressed worry over the trend, calling for urgent intervention to protect vulnerable infants.

Assembly Member for the Dechemso Electoral Area, Ahenkan Baako, confirmed the incident in an interview with the DAILY GUIDE.

He condemned the act and urged mothers facing difficulties to seek help rather than resort to abandoning their babies. He further called on security agencies to intensify surveillance and take decisive action to curb the rising cases, ensuring that perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted.
