Okudjeto Ablakwa speaking at the Festival
The Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has praised President Akufo-Addo for not abandoning projects started by the erstwhile Mahama administration in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region.
“Government is continuing all outstanding projects in North Tongu, unlike other areas which have been complaining about abandoned projects or stalled projects. All the projects that the NDC administration started are receiving the needed attention from President Akufo-Addo, and I commend the President for continuing the projects.”
Mr. Okudzato made the commendation during the 64th celebration of the Afenorto festival at Mepe in the North Tongu District.
Projects
He mentioned that contractors were busily working on the over 70 million Ghana 60-kilometre Juapong-Volo-Adidome Road.
Mr. Okudzeto also commended the government for continuing the Rural Electrification Expansion Project in the area which would serve about 72 communities upon completion.
He said that government would complete the Volivo-Dorffor-Adidome Bridge, adding that the President would soon cut the sod for the construction of the Asutuare-Aveyime Road.
The project is estimated to cost about $150 million.
Mr Okudzeto said the road minister had promised that the contract for the construction of the Sege-Aveime-Mepe Road would be awarded to the contractor by 2019.
He, therefore, expressed his profound appreciation to government for continuously working on all outstanding projects in the constituency.
“All the projects initiated by the previous government would be given the needed attention by the government,” the MP said.
Vocational School
Mr. Ablakwa commended the community for initiating the construction of a Vocational/Technical School for the area and pledged 500 bags of cement to the project.
He appealed to government to assist the community to execute the project.
NDC NPP Collaboration
The MP revealed that the success story of North Tongu is hinged on the good working relationship between him and the District Chief Executive (DCE), Collins Arku, an appointee of the NPP government.
He, therefore, urged executives of the two parties in the area to emulate the shining example, adding that “there is nothing like NDC road or NPP road or school.”
“There should be no division or confusion in North Tongu. Let us remain united and let us work together,” he stressed.
The Manklalo of the Mepe Traditional Area, Torgbe Kwasi Nego VI, appealed to government to rehabilitate the bad town roads and construct a by-pass to ease congestion in the town.
The Deputy Volta Regional Minister, Maxwell Blagodzi, who spoke on behalf of the Volta Regional Minister, gave the assurance that the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) and government are committed to transforming North Tongu.
Background
Afenorto Festival has been celebrated annually in August by the chiefs and people of the Mepe Traditional Area since 1955.
This year’s festival is themed, “People United Towards a Culture for the Future Through Education.”
