Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, aka Abronye DC, has said some unscrupulous persons have been going round the region taking bribes from Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executive (MMDCE) aspirants under the guise of getting them nominated.
He said the bribe takers are using his name to perpetrate their criminal actions, and called on the MMDCE aspirants to be on the look out.
Abronye in statement yesterday said, “My attention has been persistently drawn to the fact that, my good name and the position I hold in the New Patriotic Party as Bono Regional Chairman is being used by some persons to solicit for monies from some Municipal and District Chief Executive hopefuls as considerations for their appointment.”
He said, “To clear all ambiguities, I will like to state categorically and emphatically that, I have not assigned anyone, be it party officers, my aides or any person to take money or anything from any MMDCE aspirant for me. You deal with anyone purporting to act on my behalf at your own peril.”
According to Abronye, he has not met with any of the aspirants, neither did he assure anyone of his support to get him or her appointed as MMDCE nor has a personal interest in the selection of MMDCEs.
“The entire process shall be fair and devoid of favouritism. The selection will be based on merits, hard work, dedication and commitment to the party,” he said, adding that “the appointment of MMDCEs is the sole prerogative of His Excellency the President.
“Let me reiterate that, you deal with persons who use my name and office at your own peril because I am not the appointing authority and I shall not influence the decision of the selection of MMDCEs.”
