Accident Kills 12 At Sefwi Bibiani

About twelve people have lost their lives in a gory accident that occurred at Anhwiaso Tanoso in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region yesterday.

The accident involved a Metro Mass Transit bus with registration number AS 7123-Y and a Sprinter bus with the number AS 1813-19, all loaded with passengers.

Some eyewitnesses are claiming more than 12 people lost their lives but the MTTD of the Ghana Police Service said the death toll is 12 so far.

According to eyewitnesses, the Sprinter bus which was travelling from Sefwi-Wiawso to Kumasi crashed with the Metro Mass bus which was also travelling from the opposite direction.

Unconfirmed reports say upon reaching Ahwiaso Tanoso, the Sprinter bus tried to overtake a tricycle, popularly called ‘Aboboyaa’, loaded with wood, but in the process, it collided with the oncoming Metro Mass Transit bus.

Speaking to journalists, the Western North Region Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, ASP Juliana Forson, said that their preliminary investigation indicated 11 people died on the spot and one died later at the hospital.

She said several others sustained severe injuries and were rushed to the Ahwiaso Government Hospital, while the dead bodies have also been deposited at the hospital’s morgue.
