Accidents Involving Top Politicians Rising

The spate of road accidents involving high-profile personalities in the country is on the ascendency.

The latest to be hit is the Managing Director for the Ghana Publishing Company Limited, David Asante.

Mr. Asante, convener for the Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVCA), was involved in an accident on the Walewale-Nalerigu road in the newly created North East Region.

He was said to be on his way to Nalerigu from Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region when the calamity struck on Saturday.

Mr. Asante reportedly sustained injuries and was sent to the Baptist Medical Centre at Nalerigu.

It is unclear what caused the accident, but the Toyota Land Cruiser he was using appeared to have somersaulted and got damaged.

Just last week, the National Organiser for the NPP, Sammi Awuku’s vehicle was also involved in an accident in the Ashanti Region.

Reports say they were moving from Kumasi to Koforidua in the Eastern Region when one of the cars he was travelling in was crossed by a tricycle, causing the accident.

Over a week ago, the Deputy Bono East Regional Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kojo Nsiah, died after a vehicle he was travelling in got involved in a head-on collision on the Kintampo-Techiman highway.

According to reports, he and some party members were returning from a funeral when the pick-up truck they were travelling in collided head-on with an articulated truck loaded with bags of fertilizer around the Tuobodom tollbooth.
