Nana Osei presenting the cheque to Mr. Badu
THE Manhyia Palace has received a cheque of GH¢50,000 in the name of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, from the Asanteman Council Association of North America-Canada (ACONA) to help educate people on the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
With the increasing spread of the disease across the country, ACONA wants education to be intensified for people to adhere to the laid-down protocols, whilst receiving the much needed care package to survive.
The Gyasehene of the Chicago branch of the association, Nana Kwabena Osei, who made the presentation on behalf of the group, said the gesture was in support of the king’s efforts in partnering the government to fight Covid-19.
According to him, members of the association had recognized the tireless efforts of Otumfuo in distributing food items and providing support and care to people in the Ashanti Region, particularly during the lockdown period.
Nana Osei said the money was withdrawn from the contributions of Ghanaians resident in New York, Toronto, Chicago, Houston, California, Washington, Cincinnati, North Carolina, Columbus, Baltimore, Montreal, Worcester and Connecticut.
The Chief of Staff of Manhyia Palace, Kofi Badu, who received the cheque on behalf of the Asantehene, expressed gratitude to the ACONA members for their kind gesture.
According to him, Otumfuo is resolute in his commitment to partner the government to win the fight against Covid-19, as the king is desirous to see the country return to normal life.
