The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has indefinitely suspended Nollywood actress, Halima Abubakar, for alleged involvement in spreading false information about her colleagues.

The suspension was announced after a two-year investigation by a special secret panel, which revealed Abubakar’s role in circulating damaging rumours within the Nollywood industry.

According to a statement issued by the AGN on Friday, Abubakar was found guilty of slandering fellow actors, associates, and patrons, including making claims about extramarital affairs involving prominent individuals.

The investigation, launched in 2022, involved the examination of blogs and online sources linked to these allegations.

“After two years of painstaking investigations, the panel found that Miss Halima Abubakar was behind slanderous information concerning our members, associates, and patrons, particularly news of extramarital affairs involving highly placed individuals in society,” the AGN stated.

In light of these findings, the Guild has placed Abubakar on indefinite suspension and banned her from participating in any AGN activities or film projects.

She will also face the National Disciplinary Committee to determine further consequences.

The AGN added that additional female members are under investigation for their alleged involvement in a similar scandal, particularly surrounding the release of names purportedly linked to Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The Guild emphasised that it remains committed to protecting the reputation and integrity of its members, as it continues to address misconduct within the industry.
