Jacqueline Owusu Sarpong
Ghanaian actress Jacqueline Owusu Sarpong is set to put smiles on the faces of widows and the aged as she is planning a day event to celebrate them in society.
The event is Jacqueline’s contribution to the society and her way of giving back to the less privileged.
“Why should our youthful days be full of fun and then we retire with sadness? Let’s put smiles on the faces of the widows today and your old age is secured,” she said.
Her passion for the aged and widows undoubtedly surpasses any other interest in life.
The one day event will be characterized by programs like free health screening for inmates, NHIS registration, and party among others. It will be a special day for the widows and aged.
A number of food items including clothes and some cash will be donated to the widows and the aged at the event.
She has on many occasions been in the news for giving alms to underprivileged children among others.
The actress therefore called for a comprehensive legislation to be enacted by Parliament to protect widows and their children, and this must include the abolishing of obsolete widowhood rights.
She disclosed that the one day event would bring together widows to foster strength and a sense of purpose and also encourage widows to learn to grow in self-confidence.
She disclosed plans of host a workshop for widows in Accra and Kumasi.
According to her the workshop would serve as the ideal dialogue platform for the advocacy of a comprehensive policy and legal direction for elevating the standards of widows in Ghana.
She said a number of personalities will be invited to speak to the widow at the workshop.
