ADB Supports Bridgewater Project

The Managing Director of Agricultural development bank  Dr. John Kofi Mensah   says supporting the girl-child and women development is a key to economic development and national satisfaction .

He made this note during a ceremony a ceremony to support the   Kumasi-Kejetia Kayayei Resettlement

The gesture was aimed at promoting savings, women values and advancement in Ghana.

The renowned banker called on  the public to show  compassion to the girls  ‘’for no fault of theirs they are on the street ‘’ that’s why  I am appealing to the public to treat these precious but hardworking girls like your own children’’

The Project Director of the Pamela Bridgewater Project Yahaya Alhassan  in expressing his appreciation to  ABD support of Ghc 33,000, to the center said  the project are in partnership with the bank for the provision of 75inch   Led TV and extension of the public address known as the radio Kejetia to reach  out at most parts  of the market for the beneficial  head-porters and kejetia market  for mobilization and education of savings  by stressing that  ’’education of children should be the most important priority of every woman since successful children are the best guarantee every mother can have in her old age and is  important for women to channel all their resources to the proper upbringing of their children than expending their monies on their partners’’

He said the initiative is aimed at educating women  and other  groups on important social topics such as health and rights  advocacy

Alhassan  noted  that  the anti human traffic Unit will use the PAS to sensitize the girls (Kayayei) on the dangers of human trafficking, from the north to the southern part in search of menial jobs.

“The trafficking unit   at  Kejetia is set to launch a campaign against trafficking of girls is due to the fact that Kumasi-Kejetia  has become an important transit point for the traffickers, who transport  the vulnerable girls to places such as Tema and Accra,” he revealed.

The Kejetia Kayayei Resettlement Center has a Data Collection Department which  would also welcome local and foreign volunteers, who will be tasked to monitor and collect demographic data of disadvantaged girls and assess the training needs of the head-porters and recommend appropriate training programs.

The Outreach Unit of the Center is tasked with educating the disadvantaged girls and women on the dangers of sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV/AIDS, pre-marital sex, and teenage pregnancies which are major challenges for the girls.

In addition, a Marriage Redress Center which would have a team of local and  foreign volunteers who are endowed  the law to assist in addressing marital issues  for  market women and Kayayei.

 RICE PLANTATION

In another development, the organization are far in advance with the Mion district assembly in the northern region of Ghana to present a proposal written by Dr. Aminu Karrimu  a leading economist  at the university of Ghana business school to Aliko Dangote group to invest in rice plantation in  Ghana  to  create employment avenues as part of  program to curtail the movement of the girls to south.
