African Artistes Urged To Celebrate Each Other

Ghanaian rapper, Michael Owusu Addo, popularly known as Sarkodie, has urged African artistes to celebrate Burna Boy’s historic win at the 2021 Grammy Awards, to create opportunities for other acts on the continent.

This statement follows after some celebrities took to social media to troll Ghanaian acts over their inability to gain recognition at the Grammys after Wizkid and Burna Boy won the awards.

Addressing the issues in an interview with Nigerian presenter Adesope on Afrobeat Podcast, Sarkodie said there is the need for African artistes to celebrate each other and maintain peace as black people.

“The only problem we have right now is that Africa is divided into different countries, but if we see Burna Boy as African then this fight between artistes won’t happen.

“The award is for Africa and we all have to celebrate it,” he said, adding “unhealthy competition among ourselves will retard our progress as Africans.”

Speaking on the launch of his forthcoming album ‘No Pressure’, Sarkodie mentioned that his album which will be released on July 9, 2021, will delay a little bit, saying, “even if I don’t release the album I will have to give my fans a single at least.”

The album contains 17 songs featuring artistes such as Kwasi Arthur, and Stormzy among others. Sarkodie recently gave a surprise performance in honour of Castro at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) ceremony held on Saturday, June 26, 2021.

The special performance was opened by singer Kurl Songx who sang some of Castro’s hit songs including ‘Toffee’, ‘Seihor’, and ‘Odo Pa’ which had Kofi Kinaata joining him on stage.

Later, the band played ‘Adonai’, a song by Sarkodie featuring Castro, for Kurl Songx to perform, and the rapper joined him. Sarkodie’s appearance got most people in the auditorium gingered and on their feet to dance.
