DCE, Leo-Nelson Adzidogah Addressing the ForumĀ
The chiefs, people and all stakeholders of education in the Akatsi South District of the Volta Region have put together a comprehensive master plan to transform education in the area.
The master plan which is expected to be implemented in phases – short, medium and long term basis – is expected to improve the quality of education in the district.
This master plan was developed after a stakeholdersā consultative meeting that saw all stakeholders identify the challenges, the strengths, opportunities and strategies useful for transforming education in the area.
After the brainstorming and presentation of group results, the stakeholders came up with a communiquƩ which, among other things, recommended the need to develop an education endowment fund and an award scheme for students and teachers, including other workers.
The master plan also called for the need for communities to be involved in improving education in their jurisdictions through the provision of accommodation for teachers and setting up community committees to ensure supervision of students, teachers and schools alike.
The consultative meeting, which was themed: āEducation, an Essential Tool for Developmentā, was chaired by the former Volta Regional Director of Education, Emmanuel Korsi Keteku.
He commended the initiative but cautioned that having a talk shop of education without commiserate commitment to implement the outcome of the meeting would be useless.
The District Director of Education, Joseph Adevor, who was unhappy with some parentsā lack of interest in their childrenās education, was hopeful that the master plan would help reduce student dropout rate and the falling educational results.
The districtās Basic Education Certificate Exams (BECE) results which had seen some improvement from 40 per cent to 60 per cent pass in 2017 had just a few students passing with distinction.
The District Chief Executive, Leo-Nelson Adzidogah, who described the task as daunting but attainable noted that he and his staff would do all in their power to ensure adequate resources, strategies and logistics are channelled into education to ensure 100 per cent pass rate in the area.
He gave an assurance that plans were in place to construct six kindergartens, six three-unit classroom blocks and six six-unit classroom blocks. Besides, the assembly would soon complete the renovation of the district education office and other uncompleted and abandoned projects.
