Akosua Adjepong
An Accra circuit court presided over by Mrs. Priscilla Dappah Mireku, has threatened to issue a bench warrant for the arrest of celebrated Ghanaian musician, Akosua Adjepong, if she fails to appear before the court again.
Akosua Adjepong, together with her brother, Frank Agyemang Badu, alias Killer Boss, a building contractor, is before the court for conspiracy to commit crime and fraudulent transaction of land charges.
When the case was called yesterday, Ms Akosua Adjepong was nowhere to be found and no official reason was given for her absence either.
Mrs. Priscilla Dappah Mireku, who was not impressed by Akosua’s absence, then indicated that she would be left with no other choice than to issue a bench warrant for her arrest if at the next adjourned date she failed to avail herself for trial.
Just moments after the judge’s threat, Aksoua Adjepong walked into the courtroom.
At the last adjourned date, the judge had ordered Akosua Adjepong and Frank Agyemang Badu as well as their accuser, Jonas Asamoah, to exercise restraint whiles the case is still in court.
The court’s order followed a prayer by Akosua Adjepong’s lawyer, B.T. Agbeli, that the court should restrain Frank from verbally abusing his client.
He said the complainant had verbally abused his client on the premises of the circuit and the high courts on different occasions, and prayed the court to order him to desist from the act.
Meanwhile, Frank Agyemang Badu has begun paying part of the money he allegedly took from the complainant for the alleged fraudulent sale of land.
He has thus far returned GH¢25,000 to the court as the case is still being tried.
There was however, some confusion over how much he had so far paid.
While the accused person insisted it was GH¢26,000, the prosecution maintained that he had only paid GH¢25,000.
This made the judge to recall the case and Mr B.T. Agbeli confirmed to the court that the amount paid so far was GH¢25,000 and not GH¢26,000 as recorded by the court earlier.
The judge subsequently adjourned the matter to February 26, 2018 for the cross-examination of the prosecution witness to continue.
Ms Akosua Adjepong and Frank Agyemang Badu are alleged to have defrauded Jonas Asamoah an amount of GH¢160,000 and a Toyota RAV 4 valued at GH¢100,000.
