Akrofuom Chief Endorses Bawumia

The chief of Akrofuom near Obuasi in the Ashanti Region, Nana Agyenim Agyekum almost moved Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to tears.

This was when Dr. Bawumia, who is the Presidential Candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) visited him at his palace as part of his campaign tour of the Ashanti Region.

Nana Agyekum could not hide his excitement when he saw Dr. Bawumia, who is seeking to take over from his boss, President Akufo-Addo, as President.

Nana Agyenim Agyekum said he had always prayed to God to enable him see Dr. Bawumia before he dies, because the NPP flagbearer has changed the face of Ghana’s politics.

Referring to Dr. Bawumia as ‘Daakyehene,’ simply translated as Future King, he said, “I thank you very much and thank God for bringing you. I have always been praying to see you before I die.”

“I know you in NPP, when you promise you deliver. All I wanted was to get a district capital… when Akufo-Addo came and I told him, he told me to give him some time to look into the issue when we vote for him to become President.

“True to his words, when he became President, we were the third in the whole Ghana to be elevated to a district capital,” Nana Agyekum disclosed.

He could not help thanking President Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia for the things they have been able to do since assuming the reins of governance in 2017.

Chief among them, he said, was the introduction of Free Senior High School (SHS) policy which, he said, has benefitted every household in the country, and the restoration of teacher and nursing trainee allowances, the revival of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), the Ambulance Service, medical drone delivery and their commitment to construct 111 hospitals across the country and a host of other ongoing developmental projects.

For him, this was more than a testament that when given the opportunity, Dr. Bawumia will be a good leader since he has led several initiatives and ushered Ghana into the digital world with his digitalisation drive, which he said has made doing business in the country and the provision of service easier and accessible.

“The way God has blessed you and given you wisdom, and Ghanaians have accepted you, as for we the people of Akrofuom, we will put you at our back as our baby.

“We know you will do all we want and ask for, so we are not the least worried,” he noted with confidence.

Nana Agyekum prayed for Dr. Bawumia and the NPP to win the upcoming elections. He, however, asked the NPP Presidential Candidate to help fix the roads in the area since they were nothing to write home about.

That, he said, will win the trust and confidence of the people to continue to vote for him and the NPP.

On his part, an emotion-filled Dr. Bawumia promised Nana Agyekum and the people of not only Akrofuom but the entire Obuasi enclave to fix their roads when he becomes President, since he admitted they were in a deplorable state which does not befit the status of the once famous town and its environs that used to produce most of Ghana’s gold.
