Akufo-Addo Applauds Bawumia

PRESIDENT AKUFO-Addo has praised his vice, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, describing him as a ‘first-class assistant’.

The President extolled Dr Bawumia when he met the chiefs and people of Walewale during his two-day tour of the North East region.

“I want to say a big thank you to the people of the North East Region, especially to the people of Walewale. You have given me a first class assistant in the form of the Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia. He has been of great help to me and my government,” President Akufo-Addo told the people of Walewale

President Akufo-Addo indicated that one of the reasons for his tour of the North East Region was to show appreciation for the big support they gave him and his party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in the 2020 general elections.

“Of the six (6) six seats here in the North East Region, NPP won four (4). And, for the first time in the history of the 4th Republic, the NPP Presidential candidate won the absolute majority of the presidential vote in the North East Region,” President Akufo-Addo said.

He, however, said “I have to confess that I am a bit disappointed that Bunkpurugu and Nalerigu/Gambaga escaped from our net especially, since the two important members of my government were our candidates in those two constituencies.”

The overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional Area, Nayiri Naa Bohagu Mahama Abdulai, revealed that the victory for the NPP government was the approval of his government’s good work in the first term in office.

“It is my fervent hope and prayer that your government will continue to deliver on your good policies and programmes to the good people of this country,” he said

According to Nayiri, the people of the North East region have acknowledged the achievements by the NPP government in its first term of office which has manifested through the pro-poor policies such as the free Senior High School Education, Planting For Food and Jobs, 1D1F, One-Constituency-One Ambulance, the expansion of the national school feeding programme, and the introduction of the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO), among others. introduced by the NPP government.

The overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional Area thanked the President for the town water projects across the North East region, asphalting of the Nalerigu, Gambaga, and Walewale town roads, the ongoing construction of Wulugu-Kpasenkpe road, the Nasia-Kparigu road, the Nalerigu-Bunkpurugu road, the Nalerigu-Gbintiri road and Gbintiri-Chereponi roads, all in the North East Region.

“Mr President, the above-mentioned projects that are being witnessed, has been on the request list of Mamprugu for years which eluded and undoubtedly passed on from government to government. Certainly, we owe you tons of gratitude,” the overlord said

The Nayiri called on chiefs and the entire citizens of the North East region to fully embrace the population and housing census exercise to make it successful.

Naa Bohagu Mahama Abdulai appealed to the President to assist in renovating the traditional council office which was built during the colonial era and has since seen no renovation.

He said the region was endowed with lots of natural resources such as commercial quantities of limestone deposits located around Gbangdaa and appealed to the President to consider establishing a cement factory under the “One District One Factory” initiative in the region.
