Members of Patriotic Intellectuals (PI) made up of some lecturers of the Takoradi Technical University have maintained that President Akufo-Addo should be applauded for his good works which have transformed the country’s economy positively.

“We share in the belief and conviction of Ghanaians that President Akufo-Addo has performed well in his first term as President of the Republic, hence deserves a second term to do more,” they stressed.

The lecturers stated this at the second edition of their “Ghana Must Know” series during which they highlighted some of the projects the current government has undertaken within the period of almost four years in the Western Region alone.

They focused on infrastructure interventions in kindergarten, basic schools, senior high schools, and technical and tertiary institutions in the region.

They also mentioned some interventions made in the cocoa growing areas and the oil and gas sector in the region.

School Blocks

Addressing the media, Michael Asare Appiah, Chairman of the PI said the government has completed and handed over a two-unit kindergarten classroom block for the Ewoku M/A Primary School in the Nzema East Municipality.

He also mentioned the construction of two-unit classroom block at Ekutuase D/A Primary School in Wassa East which had also been completed and handed over.

He stated the re-roofing of Methodist Nursery and KG, the Tico Nursery School and the Islamic ‘A’ and ‘B’ Primary Schools, all in Shama, and also said under the basic schools category, the Assorko D/A Model Junior High School (JHS) and the Aboadze D/A JHS, all in the Shama District, have been re-roofed and handed over to the schools.
SHS Projects

He said under SHS intervention projects; a 12-unit classroom block has been completed and handed to Fijai Senior High School, a 2,500 capacity auditorium for the Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS) with two new dormitory blocks, which are 95 per cent complete, are also being built for the school.

He also mentioned a three-unit Science Laboratory block for the Mpohor SHS completed as well as a multi-purpose four-storey infrastructure GETFund project which comprised lecture halls, offices for directorates and entities within the university, computer research and laboratory rooms, was about 95 per cent complete.

Cocoa Sector

He said the reopening of the restructured West Africa Mills Company (WAMCo), a cocoa processing company in the region, which collapsed under former President John Mahama, demonstrated the resolve by President Akufo-Addo to increase local cocoa processing and create jobs.

“Over 10,200 hectares of cocoa farms with swollen shoot virus disease are at various stages of the rehabilitation processes in both Western and Western North regions which had even created more than 5,000 jobs,” he added.
