THE ASHANTI Region has benefitted from 24 ultra-modern court buildings in less than eight years under President Akufo-Addo’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

The provision of the court buildings and other infrastructure in the judiciary by the government has contributed in expediting the adjudication of cases in courts in the region.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, who made the disclosure, said justice delivery in the region has experienced massive improvement in recent times.

According to him, the government has also worked tirelessly to provide about 40 new accommodations for the judiciary in the region, which is unprecedented.

“In the judiciary sector, the government has commissioned 24 court buildings in the Ashanti Region in less than eight years, and this is an unprecedented achievement.

“Also, the government has provided about 40 brand new accommodations for the judiciary sector in this region alone, and this is also unprecedented,” he announced.

Osei-Mensah was addressing journalists as part of the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council’s (RCC) version of ‘Meet the Press’ programme in Kumasi on Monday.

Monday’s event was mainly used to inform media practitioners about the NPP government’s performance in the security and judiciary sectors in the Ashanti Region.

In the area of security, he said the government has been able to significantly improve the number of security personnel in the region, and it has helped to boost security.

“The government has increased the number of security personnel in the region by a whopping 5,108, and this a contributory factor to the improved security,” he noted.

He said violent clashes between Fulani herdsmen and farmers in Agogo, which were major challenges in the region, have now been reduced to the barest minimum.

“This has led to improved yield in farm produce in Agogo. Now there is even Agogo plantain market in Burkina Faso because farmers in Agogo can send their produce there,” he added.

Osei-Mensah also announced that highway robberies in the region have been reduced and Zongo and Asante youth clashes have also been dealt with by the security forces.

According to him, the security agents are also dealing with the illegal mining menace, also known as ‘galamsey’, adding that in general, the security agents have done well.
