Some residents of Akyeremade, a farming community in the Sene West District of the Brong-Ahafo Region, on Monday attacked the district police station at Kwame Danso, the district capital, and released the chief of the town, Nana Asempa and three others who were in custody.

According to information gathered by this paper, the people attacked the station with guns, cutlasses and pieces of stick and in the process, hurt two officers on duty.

Nana Asempa,  DAILY GUIDE gathered, was arrested together with Akwasi Kumah, Kofi Dengal and Osei Kwadwo, to help the police in their investigations following the reported attack on the Sisala community and burning of more than 300 bags of charcoal into ashes by the people of Akyeremade  .

Chief Inspector Dandy Nartey, station officer, told newsmen that some members of the Sisala community lodged a complaint with the police that some members of Akyeremade attacked them and burnt about 300 bags of charcoal belonging to them – Sisalas.

“After preliminary investigations, we went and arrested four of the natives, including the chief, Nana Asempa, at about 4:00 am yesterday to help us in our investigations,” he explained.

Chief Inspector Nartey asserted that not satisfied with the action of the police, the people mobilized themselves into four trucks with guns and cutlasses and came and attacked the police, broke into the cell and freed their people. “Two of our officers were hurt in the process but have since been treated and discharged from the hospital,” he claimed.

The attackers, he said, numbered about 500. “They besieged the station and started throwing stones at us. But the good news is that we have arrested three of the attackers and we are ready to arraign them before court,” he said.
