Akylah Drops ‘Just Dey’

Akylah, a fast-rising Ghanaian musician, has released a new single titled ‘Just Dey’.

The song is her fourth single since she joined the music scene in 2015. In an interview with BEATWAVES, the reggae/dancehall artiste said she was inspired by the many heartbreaking stories she hears about other ladies and their desire to have guys who would love them for who they are and stay with them.

“After so many heart breaks you finally meet this person who makes you feel something special – something that you have never felt before. So, as you guys hook up, memories of previous heartbreaks begin haunting you and because you are in love, and you don’t wanna go through another heart break, you request a favour from this special person, not to leave you. He should ‘Just Dey’,” she narrated.

Recounting how she started, the ‘Call On Me’ singer disclosed that music for her started after she won an inter-community beauty contest. There, she performed for the first time with a live band and the feedback was great, so she decided to go full-time into music.

She stated that ace highlife musician Adotey Tetor, who is her uncle, has been a great inspiration in her development.

“Growing up, I watched him perform; I watched him write songs and that has been my biggest inspiration,” she revealed.

Asked about her choice of music genre, she said she chose reggae/dancehall because her mum was a “bigger fan” of the genre.

She added that her parents support her craft fully because “I come from an entertainment-oriented family.”

Akylah also urged her fans and Ghanaians to give her more attention because “I believe that I have so much in me which is yet to be seen.”

“Aside the fact that I sing, I also write my own songs and I also do my own vocal arrangement, which is not common here in Ghana,” she stressed.

“Before we can make it big time out there, we need to first of all accept each other and help each other,” she advised.

Looking into the future, Akylah hopes to collaborate with big names like Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, Etana, Samini, Eazy Baby and many others.
