Flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, has donated food items to Muslims in the Ashanti Region ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr on Saturday, April 22, 2023.
The donated commodities include 180 bags of rice and 55 bags of sugar.
Former MP for Manhyia North, Collins Owusu Amankwah, who is the Ashanti Regional Campaign Coordinator for Alan Kyerematen, made the donations on behalf of his boss.
According to the Campaign Coordinator, the gesture is intended to help Muslims in the NPP break their fast on a positive note, and also in recognition of sacrifices made by Muslims in the country, particularly those in Zongo communities.
“This donation demonstrates our next leader and future President of Ghana’s unending commitment and love for Muslims, and it is worth noting that he also wishes all those who fasted well,” Mr. Amankwah said.
He stated that Mr. Kyerematen was also praying to God for the opportunity to lead the NPP and win the presidency in order to contribute to the country’s development.
On Sunday, he made a similar presentation on Mr. Kyerematen’s behalf, presenting bags of rice, sugar, and cooking oil to the Ashanti Regional Chief Imam, Sheikh Abdul Moomen Haroun, at his residence.
He praised the Islamic leader and all Muslims for taking on such a difficult assignment on behalf of Ghanaians.
The former MP advised Muslim youth to finish their fast on a positive note, while also requesting that they maintain good behaviour and enjoy the upcoming Eid in peace.
He dispelled the false notion that some members of the party were spreading religious intolerance in the country.
He stated that Christians and Muslims have coexisted peacefully in Ghana since the country’s inception, but that the incessant appeal for tolerance between these two faiths was becoming too artificial.
The Chief Imam prayed for Mr. Kyerematen and the campaign team after receiving the items, and wished them success in their effort.
Ambassador Shaibu Musa Shariff, who accepted the gifts, praised the frontrunner of the NPP flagbearship race for the nice gesture.
Mr. Kyerematen, he claimed, has been donating to Muslims in the party since 2007, demonstrating his humanity and charity.
“I urge the Nasara Wing of our Party and other delegates to remember Alan Kyerematen when they vote because he is the only person who has consistently demonstrated love for the NPP,” the former Ambassador said.
