AMA Endorses PM

Alfred Asiedu Adjei being sworn in

ASSEMBLY MEMBERS of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) at its special meeting last week overwhelmingly endorsed Alfred Asiedu Adjei as Presiding Member (PM) for the Assembly.

The newly elected PM, who is the assembly member for the Avenor Electoral Area, secured 52 votes, representing 96 per cent of the 54 votes cast by assembly members present during the meeting.

He thanked the assembly members for the confidence reposed in him and promised to work closely with them to ensure that the mayor’s vision of making Accra a smart, sustainable and resilient city is achieved.

He further promised to work hard towards ensuring that the assembly members were given whatever was due them on time so that they could also work towards developing their various electoral areas.

The Metropolitan Chief Executive of the AMA, Mohammed Adjei Sowah, in his address, indicated that there was no assembly without assembly members hence the need to fill the seat of PM after the term of office of former PM, Thomas Mustapha Ashong, ended some months ago.

The election which was conducted by the officials of the Electoral Commission was done in a peaceful manner and the elected PM was immediately sworn into office by Her Ladyship Abena Opoku Adjin- Doku, a circuit court Judge.

The 40-year-old newly elected PM is a social worker with Absolute Community Network, a non-governmental organization that caters for vulnerable women in deprived communities.
