Some angry youth at Heman in the Afigya Kwabre South District of the Ashanti Region have launched a manhunt for a 34-year-old man accused of engaging in unlawful sexual activities with teenage boys in the community.

The suspect, whose identity has been withheld, was initially arrested by residents and handed over to the Kodie District Police Command for investigations.

However, tension escalated in the community after reports emerged that the suspect had been granted police bail and allegedly returned to the area.

Residents say the suspect’s presence has sparked fear and anger among community members, with some youth threatening to force him out of the town.

Speaking to the media, a Unit Committee member, Seth, condemned the alleged act, describing it as unacceptable and against the cultural values of the community.

“We know the police have the right to grant bail, but the people here are not comfortable with him staying in the community. That is why some of the youth are searching for him to drive him away,” he stated.

According to him, the absence of a substantive chief and traditional council in the community has contributed to the growing tension, as residents feel there is no local authority to properly address the issue.

The suspect was reportedly apprehended on Monday, May 11, 2026, following allegations that he had maintained an inappropriate relationship with one of the teenagers for the past six months.

Meanwhile, residents have appealed to the police to speed up investigations into the matter to avert any possible violence or mob action.

Police are yet to officially comment on the incident.
