Barely three days after a student of the O’Reilly Senior High School, Edward Borketey Sackey, was stabbed to death by his mate, a level 300 student of the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) has allegedly been killed.
The deceased, who has been identified by the police as Kingsley Okyere Darko, 26, was said to have been slashed with a machete in his head by one Akwasi Yeboah, 34.
Okyere Darko, reportedly, bled profusely and was rushed to a nearby medical facility to save his life, but was declared dead during treatment.
The bloody incident happened at Bantama, a suburb of Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region around 7pm on September 3, 2024. But what sparked the violent attack was not disclosed.
“On September 3, 2024 at 1945 hours, Kennedy Gyimah, residing at Bantama, Kumasi, reported to the Bantama station that at approximately 1900 hours on the same day, his brother, Kingsley Okyere Darko, a 26-year-old level 300 student at the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED), was slashed with a machete on the head by Akwasi Yeboah, aged 34 years, at Bantama.
“The victim was rushed to the Suntreso Government Hospital for treatment by the onlookers but died minutes later while receiving treatment,” a report by the Suntreso District Police disclosed.
According to the police, when they received the complaint, they rushed to the Suntreso Government Hospital and found the deceased lying on a hospital bed with a deep cut on his head and bruises on his left shoulder.
Photographs of the deceased were taken by the police for evidential purposes, and the body was placed in the morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Later, the suspect was apprehended and detained to assist in investigations.
“Photographs of the deceased were taken for evidential purposes before the body was removed and conveyed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
“Suspect Akwasi Yeboah was later arrested by a team led by the Bantama Assembly Member, Kwabena Boateng, and the suspect is currently in custody to assist in investigations,” the police report concluded.
