The Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed, has called on the Northern Regional Police Command to arrest the youth who attacked the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH).

According to the minister, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and government have disassociated themselves from the attack on the CEO of the hospital and will ensure that the perpetrators of the attack are brought to book by the police.

He stated: “The government didn’t sanction it; the party in the region didn’t sanction it. Therefore, we don’t associate ourselves with the attacks and so we are going to ensure that the perpetrators are dealt with accordingly”.

A youth group of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) calling itself ‘Concerned NPP Youth Coalition’ locked up the offices of the TTH in the Northern Region.

The group had accused the CEO of TTH, Dr. Kolbilla David, of awarding seven contracts to his own companies and the procurement officer of the hospital. Per the contract, consumables were supposed to be supplied to the facility.

According to the members of the group, they have evidence that the facility had paid huge sums of monies to the procurement officer of the hospital and the said companies owned by the CEO.

The minister assured workers of the TTH that there would be enough security on the premises of the hospital to enable workers work without any trouble.

He indicated that the party leadership in the region would sit with the youth of the party to find a lasting solution to their concerns.

However, the minister said the absence of the board of the hospital has been a major challenge to the facility adding that he had spoken with the minister of health about it and very soon the issues would be resolved to enhance health delivery at the hospital.

The CEO said the hospital is a major security zone and that anything that can affect healthcare deserves great attention.

He appealed to the police for a security post to be established at the facility to make sure there are police officers at the facility at all times.

He asserted that all workers of the facility are working to restore the health of patients and that it would be bad to have the same people getting hurt by other people due to their personal interests.

Meanwhile, the offices of the TTH and the administrator have been re-opened by the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) after being locked up by the NPP youth.
