Mikel Arteta has agreed an improved new contract with Premier League champions Arsenal.
The Spaniard’s current deal expires at the end of the season, but talks over an extension have been ongoing for several months.
BBC Sport reported earlier this month that an agreement between the two parties was close, with Arteta now understood to have reached a final agreement with the Gunners.
The length of the new contract has not been confirmed, but it is expected to keep Arteta at Arsenal beyond his 10th year at the club, having joined in December 2019.
The new deal will also see the 44-year-old receive a significant pay rise from his current £10m annual salary, with an additional £5m available in bonuses.
Speaking about his future last week, Arteta said: “They [the fans] don’t have to worry about any of that because I want to be here. I’m extremely happy and I feel very grateful to work with the people I work with.”
