The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, yesterday received a grand and colourful welcome in Kumasi following his return from the United States of America where he undertook a number of engagements that projected Asanteman and Ghana on the international stage.
Hundreds of residents, traditional leaders, government officials and members of the security services turned out to welcome the Asantehene upon his arrival at the Prempeh I International Airport.
The colourful reception was jointly organised by the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Manhyia Palace, Asanteman Council and residents of Kumasi.
Otumfuo had travelled to the United States for a number of engagements, including the celebration of Akwasidae, as part of efforts to promote Ghanaian and Asante culture globally.
On arrival at the airport yesterday, Thursday, September 3, 2026, the Asantehene was given a ceremonial parade by the security services before he began a grand procession through some principal streets of Kumasi.
The procession passed through Dichemso, Krofrom, Suame Roundabout, Abrepo Junction, Bantama, Gee Roundabout, Kejetia, the Central Police Station, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and Asewase before ending at the Manhyia Palace.
Residents along the route trooped out in their numbers, with many cheering, waving and taking photographs of the Asantehene as he made his way through the city.
Some of the residents expressed excitement and pride at the return of the revered monarch, describing his international engagements as a source of pride for Asanteman and Ghana.
At the Manhyia Palace, traditional rites, music and cultural performances were held to officially welcome Otumfuo and give thanks for his safe return home.
