Asawase SDA Clocks 40 Years

THE ASAWASE Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church is forty (40) years old.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawase, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, who was the Guest of honour, during the climax of the celebration recently, advised that the country’s peace should be jealously protected at all times.

According to him, the country could be effectively transformed only in an atmosphere of peace and total unity and therefore, nobody should ‘joke’ with the peace in the country now.

In this regard, he has urged churches located within Muslim-dominated areas in the country, to maintain a peaceful coexistence between them and Muslims at all times.

Muntaka opined that Christianity and Islam were both founded on the foundation of peace and unity therefore, their followers should always portray the traits of peace.

The Asawase MP, who doubles as the Minority Chief Whip in Parliament, made these remarks during the 40 years Anniversary of the Asawase Adventist Church in Kumasi.

The anniversary, themed ‘The Return of Ezra, Home of Restoration,’ is aimed at restoring hope in believers as well as establishing peace and development in the community.

Pastor Alexander Opoku, in charge of the Asawase SDA, said the church was focused on bringing development in its environs in order to help improve the lives of the people.

According to him, the church was fully committed to the general welfare of the people and their educational development especially, in the communities they operate.

Going forward, the pastor said the church also aimed to establish education units to see to the establishment of schools and also help to instill discipline among the youth.

Municipal Chief Executive of Asokore Mampong Municipality, Kennedy Kankam, in a remark, urged the church to collaborate with the State to solve societal problems.

He, particularly, stressed on the need for churches to join hands with the various assemblies in the country to embark on meaningful projects to benefit the citizenry.

A representative of the Asantehene, Ankobeahene Nana Kwame Kusi, also charged the church to play roles in the training of the youth for them to properly fit into society.
