Ashaiman Notorious Robber Killed

Lifeless body of Ibrahim Shaban

A 26-year-old suspected member of an armed robbery gang that have been terrorizing residents of Ashaiman, Tema and its environs in the Greater Accra Region has been killed by the Ashaiman Police.

The deceased, Ibrahim Shaban, who was released from prison through the Justice For All programme about a month ago, attempted to shoot the police with a locally manufactured gun.

The body of the deceased has been conveyed to the Police Hospital in Accra pending autopsy.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Joseph Benefo Darkwah, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Tema Regional Police Command, on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at about 11.40pm, Ashaiman Police had information that the armed robbers, who had been engaged in robberies in Ashaiman and Tema, were planning to embark on another robbery expedition.

The armed robbers, he said, converged on a place commonly called ‘Ataya’ in an uncompleted building, near Atadeka Lorry Station in the Kpone-Katamansu Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

He explained that the police immediately deployed undercover detectives from Ashaiman District Police who managed to sneak into their hideout.

“The police easily indentified Ibrahim Shaban to be a hardened armed robber who had been released on bail about a month ago as part of the Justice for all’ programme for murder and robbery.

“Shaban bit the left hand of one of the detectives in attempt to escape and tried to shoot him with a locally manufactured pistol but was swiftly gunned down by the other police officers,” he added.
