Michael Essel-Mills, one of the leading NPP Communicators in Ashanti Region
SENIOR COMMUNICATORS of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government on radio and television in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region have threatened to embark on a strike action.
According to them, despite their loyalty and hard work over the years, which contributed immensely to the victories of the NPP in the 2016 general elections and 2020 general elections, the party leadership have turned their back on them.
Some of the aggrieved NPP communicators, who spoke to the DAILY GUIDE on condition of anonymity, complained bitterly that the party has taken them for a ride and so they intend to protest with a strike action.
They said as compared to their colleagues in Accra, the Ashanti NPP communicators are always discriminated against by the party leadership when it comes to appointments in government.
They said after their tireless efforts that helped the party to win political power in 2016, none of them was rewarded with an appointment but they did not complain.
According to them, they have realized that the unfortunate trend that happened to them during the 2016 polls, is gradually repeating itself after the 2020 elections, so the need for them to bare their teeth.
“After the 2016 electoral victory, our members were overlooked when appointments were being made into government, but we did not utter a word because we had stayed in opposition for eight years at the time.
“Unfortunately, after the 2020 electoral victory, we still do not see any sign that some of our members would be rewarded with appointments and we shall complain this time,” one of the NPP communicators said.
He said some of their members such as Dennis Kwakwa, Michael Essel-Mills, Raphael Patrick, Moro Kabore, Yaw Opoku Mensah, Keskine Owusu Poku and the rest, qualify to be appointed into government so the right thing must be done now.
“We have decided that if the party leadership fails to reward our hard work with appointments for some of our members, then we shall embark on a strike action in the coming days to drum home our grievances,” the aggrieved NPP communicators intimated.
