The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atwima Kwanwoma District Assembly, Grace Agyemang Asamoah, has begun moves to attract international support to address potable water challenges confronting communities in the district.
The DCE made the move when she participated in the Italy-Ghana Water Technology Workshop held at the Accra Marriott Hotel, where she engaged Italian water technology companies and key stakeholders on possible partnerships to improve water supply systems in the district.
The workshop, organised by the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) in collaboration with BolognaFiere and Accadueo (H2O), brought together experts, government officials and major players in the water sector to explore innovative solutions and investment opportunities in water management.
The programme focused on modern water treatment technologies, wastewater management, filtration systems and sustainable infrastructure development aimed at supporting Ghana’s water sector.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Director of the Italian Trade Agency, Mr. Luigi Puca, said the initiative was part of Italy’s efforts to share its technological expertise and promote stronger economic cooperation with partner countries.
He said the workshop provided an opportunity to address environmental concerns, introduce advanced engineering solutions and build partnerships that would support Ghana’s development priorities.
Italy’s Ambassador to Ghana, Laura Ranalli, also reaffirmed her country’s commitment to strengthening relations with Ghana through sustainable investments and technological cooperation, particularly in the water sector.
The event was also addressed by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Frank Amoakohene; Managing Director of Ghana Water Company Limited, Adam Mutawakilu; and Western North Regional Minister, Gilbert Ken Yentumi, who urged Italian companies to consider investment opportunities in their regions.
About nine leading Italian water technology companies participated in the workshop and engaged Ghanaian institutions on modern solutions and possible areas of collaboration.
On the sidelines of the event, Madam Agyemang Asamoah held discussions with Ambassador Ranalli and representatives of some Italian firms to explore avenues for partnership in expanding potable water supply in Atwima Kwanwoma.
The DCE said the district’s growing population had increased demand for safe and reliable drinking water, stressing the need for technical support and investment to improve existing water infrastructure.
She expressed hope that the discussions would lead to sustainable partnerships that would help provide quality water services to residents and contribute to the Assembly’s development agenda.
