Auto Electrician Gets 10 Years For Robbery

AAn auto electrician, Fuad Mohammed, has been sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court for robbing a lady of her Samsung mobile phone valued at GH¢800.

He was hauled before the court together with Yussif Mohammed charged with three counts of conspiracy, causing harm and robbery.

They all pleaded not guilty to all the charges and the prosecutor was left with the burden of proving their guilt beyond reasonable doubt.

The court, presided over by His Honour Aboagye Tandoh, found Fuad Mohammed guilty of two charges and convicted him accordingly.

The court found him guilty of the charge of robbery and sentenced him to 10 years’ imprisonment. He also got five (5) years’ imprisonment for the charge of causing harm.

Both sentences are to run concurrently which implies he will serve 10 years in prison.

Yussif Mohammed was however discharged of the three charges levelled against him as the prosecutor could not lead evidence to prove his guilt.

The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector (rtd) Kwabena Adu and taken over by Chief Inspector William K. Boateng, told the court that the complainant on September 2, 2017, was on her way from a wedding at St. Kizito at Nima around 3pm when the accused persons who were on a motorbike followed her.

The court heard that the two met the complainant at the Nima Roundabout and held her bag.

According to the police, the complainant struggled with Fuad Mohammed who got down from the motorbike and hit the complainant on the right side of her head.

The convict and his colleague were said to have managed to snatch the complainant’s mobile phone and sped off on their bike.

They however run into an oncoming passenger bus and fell down. They were arrested by officers of the Nima police patrol team, who were on their usual patrol duties.
