Mr Kwabena Darko-Mensah, the Deputy Aviation Minister has paid a courtesy call on the Regent of Dagbon, Kampuya Naa Abdulai Yakubu Andani at the Gbewa Palace in Yendi in the Northern Region.

The visit by the Deputy Aviation Minister was to express government’s appreciation to the Dagbon skin for the allocation of 4,000 acres of land for the building of an airstrip in Yendi.

Mr Darko-Mensah assured the Dagbon Regent that the land will be used for its intended purpose.

He hinted that plans are being advanced by government through the Ministry to make the Tamale Airport the sole airport to convey Muslim pilgrims to the Hajji, an initiative aimed at bringing development and job opportunities to the region.

According to the Regent of Dagbon, traveling to Accra, the nation’s capital has become more simple, fast and easy, thanks to the establishment of an airport in the Northern Region.

Kampukuya Naa Abdulai Yakubu Andani, said building another airstrip in the region, more so at Yendi, will accord people traveling from the eastern corridors the opportunity to travel by air without having to first move from Yendi to Tamale to catch a flight.

Meanwhile, about three communities around the marked land for the airstrip have been relocated to make room for the construction.

Kampakuya Naa Abdulai Yakubu Andani stated that, he will ensure encroachers do not take over the site marked for the project but appealed to government to secure the boundaries of the land to avoid the instance of unscrupulous individuals selling parts of the land.
