Gladson Awako
Great Olympics captain Gladson Awako has attributed his success in his Black Stars debut to psyching himself while on the bench.
The former TP Mazembe/ Heart of Lions midfielder finished the game with high shoulders having distinguished himself in the 3-1 win over Sao Tome and Principe in Accra.
And explaining what accounted for his spirited showing, he told Happy FM that his psychological makeup contributed to his brilliance.
His 45 mininutes performance has generated positive remarks from the football populace—making a strong case for players in the domestic league.
The 2009 U-20 World Cup winner believes the invitation to the Black Stars has also served as a huge motivation to his counterparts.
Awako said, “All the home-based players invited – Kwame Poku, Ismail Ganiyu and Razak Abalorah – did well It is a big motivation for us here playing the league.”
He added, “If you are on the bench you have to be ready when the coach calls on you. So I psyched myself and was calm when I came into the game.
“I didn’t let the pressure get to me. My performance wasn’t bad and I know I can do more,” he said.
He has promised to give his best shot when the Wonder Club host Medeama in Accra on Friday saying, “It’s going to be a very difficult game against Medeama but we will do our possible best to win the game.”
CK Akonnor’s recent call remains the largest local representation in recent years.
