Boxing legend Michael Ayitey Okai, alias “Ayitey Powers,” is in the custody of the Accra Regional Police Command for allegedly issuing a death threat against Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), on August 24, 2026.
The arrest follows a video circulating on social media in which the 46-year-old former professional boxer is alleged to have issued the threat.
The suspect, Michael Ayitey Okai, is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
In a statement issued by Ms. Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs at the Accra Regional Police Command, she assured the public that investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged threat and to take appropriate action in accordance with the law.
“The Command further urges the public to refrain from spreading unverified information concerning the matter while investigations are ongoing,” the statement read.
