Azar Chemical Industries, Ghana’s leading manufacturer of paints, coatings, and related products has donated a sum of GH₵20,000 towards Citi FM/TV’s relief support campaign aimed at assisting residents affected by the Akosombo Dam spillage in Lower Volta.
As part of the company’s Social Corporate Responsibility (CRS), it has also committed to painting and refurbishing the settlement buildings that are under development for flood victims.
Speaking on Citi FM’s Breakfast Show yesterday, Marketing Manager, Jad Azar, said the company since its establishment in 1968 has been involved in humanitarian activities aimed at improving the livelihood of citizens in the country which include providing the basic needs to people to alleviate poverty.
“The Azar Group is committed to this humanitarian crisis and really wants to empower the affected communities of the Akosombo Dam spillage.
“And we want to contribute in two aspects, by donating a cheque of GH₵20,000, and the other aspect that we want to commit ourselves to is to the development of the building structures by painting and refurbishing them with Azar’s best products to last longer,” he said.
Mr. Jad Azar further noted that management of the company is committed to donating a large number of paints to protect and beautify the settlement structures. “The painting materials to be used for the paintings come in the form of waterproof materials which are in local and imported form to protect the buildings from the diverse weather conditions,” he added.
Managing Director, Citi FM, Samuel Attah-Mensah, who expressed gratitude to the management of Azar Chemical Industries, stated that the construction of the settlement projects is currently taking place in areas such as Ada, Tokpo in Shai Osudoku, Kpando and New Bakpa in Central Tongu.
Giving a situational account of the level of development of the settlement structures under construction, Mr. Attah-Mensah said, “We have about five locations we have earmarked for the buildings. Three of them have started in earnest, with Tokpo in Shai Osudoku, we just completed the roofing. With Ada, we are at the gable getting to the top level of the building”.
“In Kpando, the constructors are building the superstructure now and it is the dormitory type of accommodation. We also have a community we are rebuilding at New Bakpa in Central Tongu which may include a market, school, and residential facilities as well,” he added.
