Bafour Awuah, Agyeman-Manu Retain Slots

Delegates in the just ended New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries in the Sunyani West, Dormaa Central, Berekum East and Berekum West constituencies reposed their confidence in their Members of Parliament (MPs) to represent them in the 2024 general elections.

Employment and Labour Relation Minister, Ignatius Bafour Awuah, MP for Sunyani West, did not find it difficult beating his closest challenger, lawyer Amma Frimpomaa Dwumah with 660 votes out of 979 valid votes cast.

Amma Frimpomaa polled 244 votes while the third contender, Mubarik Abdullah Ciessey managed to get 75 votes failing to win sympathy votes from voters as he was attacked and wounded by robbers on the eve of the election.

Speaking to the media after he was declared winner, Ignatius Bafour Awuah promised to bring the the other contenders together so they all work towards retaining the seat for the ruling NPP.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, had a narrow win with six votes’ difference when he beat his closest contender, Yao Yeboah with 345 votes to 339 votes out of the 687 total votes cast.

Another MP who retained his seat was Agyenim Boateng, popularly called Agogo, in the Berekum West Constituency. He polled 246 votes to beat his close challenger, Kwaku Ohene Djan who polled 59 votes.  The third contender, Isaac Osei, had 30 votes.

However, the former MP for Berekum East Kwabena Twum Nuamah, could not make a forceful come back.

Nelson Kyeremeh polled 357 votes to win the slot while Twum Nuamah had 296 votes.

It must be noted that there was no election in the Sunyani East constituency due to a pending court action.

Deputy Sports Minister, Evans Opoku Bobie won the Asunafo North constituency slot with 639 votes whiles his contender, Eric Boadu had 248 votes.

In Asutifi North, Patrick Bannor also won with 331 votes while his only challenger, Albert Adu-boahene polled 220 votes.

In the Bono East Region, Deputy Roads and Highway Minister, Stephen Jalula for Pru West Constituency won the primaries with 336 votes, while Iddrisu Gariba got 80 votes.
