BARCLAYS BANK Ghana, part of the Absa Group, has organized an engagement session with over 800 youth to educate them about how to use the Bank’s “ReadytoWorkprogramme to empower them for a smooth transition onto the job market.

The session which took place at the Omega Youth Camp, held at the Central University College in Dawhenya, saw participants being trained on the programme’s four modules which are work, people, money and enterprise skills.

The youth, mainly students drawn from various tertiary and second-cycle schools, were taken through topics such as CV writing, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, teamwork and leadership among others.

“ReadytoWork” is a free online platform through which students and graduates can use to build skills needed to make a smooth transition into the job market. The programme offers a certificate after the completion of the curriculum.

Speaking to the students, head of citizenship at Barclays Ghana Priscilla Yeboah, said “It is imperative that students take it upon themselves to find out what employers are looking for and then acquire those skills in order to enhance their competitive edge.”

“The “ReadytoWork” platform provides graduates with the necessary skills and competencies to enhance their competitiveness,”she further added.

Ms Yeboah also used the occasion to update the students on the bank’s transition to Absa, and the opportunities the change presents to the youth and all other stakeholders of the bank.

The “ReadytoWork” programme is in line with the bank’s citizenship strategy which aims to provide young people with access to the skills and opportunities they need to find meaningful employment or start successful business ventures.
